Colombia ‘24

Magazin

Some trips leave a lasting impression—my first visit to Colombia was one of them. More than just a vacation, it was an opportunity to explore Laura’s (my girlfriend’s) home country, experience its culture firsthand, and discover a place that felt both new and familiar at the same time. This journey inspired me to create Buenos Días Colombia, a personal photo magazine capturing the stories, landscapes, and traditions that shaped our time there.

A Story Told Through Images

From the moment we arrived, Colombia’s energy was captivating. The vibrant streets, the rich history, and the stunning natural beauty made it impossible to take a bad photo. But more than just collecting images, I wanted to document what I learned—about the country and the culture.

The magazine became a way to share this experience with family and friends. A photo album wouldn’t have done justice to the journey, so I created a curated visual story, guiding the reader through the traditions, history, and breathtaking landscapes we encountered.

Coffee, Coastlines & Christmas Traditions

Among the many places we explored, two stood out:

📍 Salento – The heart of Colombia’s coffee culture, where we saw the origins of one of the world’s most famous exports. Walking through the lush green valleys, visiting coffee farms, and experiencing the slow, careful process of coffee-making was unforgettable.

🏝️ Santa Marta – The coast welcomed us with its relaxed vibe, stunning beaches, and a different side of Colombian life. From the colorful streets to the hidden corners of nature, it was a place that felt both adventurous and serene.

But perhaps the most surprising part? The food. Laura had prepared a Colombian food checklist, and we almost completed it! From arepas to ajiaco, every dish told its own story, making our culinary journey just as exciting as our travels.

And then came the holidays. Christmas and New Year’s traditions in Colombia were unlike anything I had experienced before. The warmth, the celebrations, and the deep-rooted customs made me see the festive season in a completely new light.

From Idea to Print

While the project was a solo endeavor, Laura played a huge role—she translated the entire magazine into Spanish so her family could enjoy it, too. We printed and shipped copies to Colombia, turning what started as a personal memory into something we could share across continents.
